A couple of nights at Hawes Caravan Club site was planned. Things change. We were just about to set off when Sandra complained for the third time of visual disturbances and headache so we decided to go to Specsavers. They gave here a thorough examination and suggested she is referred for an emergency eye clinic appointment. We come home and can’t set off until we know more. They range with an appointment for the next day at 9:15. the booking is postponed and some blood tests for me rearranged so we can go Wednesday to Saturday.
So after a trip to Darlington Hospital and a followup appointment with Stroke specialists planned we came home and set off up the A1 again. The road to Leyburn was closed and Google maps alternative route took us down many narrow roads until we reached East Witton. Then onwards on decent roads to Hawes. The campsite was pleasant with lots of gravel pitches and stark grey winter trees. It was a short walk to Hawes which we undertook the following day. Hawes is pretty but many shops were closed for winter. We had lunch in a nice cafe and found the Wensleydale Cheese factory. Later we had another walk by the river. It was bright and sunny and much better than the forecast. The pubs looked a bit grim so we had dinner in the van each night and lunch out. Friday we visited the cheese factory and had lunch there. We ambled slowly back through Hawes visiting a couple of nice shops. Sandra was successful with some clothes in the sales.
Throughout Sandra felt grotty or worse, though we both slept well except Friday night when heavy rain kept us awake for a while.
The homeward journey too us to Jervaulx Abbey and a walk round with lunch in the car park. We were home just after 3 and had unpacked before 4 pm.
